For TVET Institutions

Research has indicated that soft skills are not directly taught in training programs, but both skills are important for TVET Courses. Soft skills play an important role in job performance and highly prioritized and required in a job. As such the need for soft skills training in TVET institutions is critical.

However, educational institutions come short at holistically developing the youth student and enhance their success in the labour market. This level of youth unpreparedness for employment can be attributed to limited infrastructure and access to adequate soft skills training.

Acquisition of soft skills has been linked to Whole Youth Development (WYD). The concept of WYD aims to empower the youth by promoting all types of skills required for productivity.  There is a deliberate move by governments from merely meeting the labour demand to promoting whole youth development (WYD). This can be seen from the emphasis of a competency-based education curriculum.

Tusome Digital AcademyeLearning platform has a target of filling that gap and is looking at opportunities to partner with TVET institutions who intend to use our training materials. TVET’s can align their curriculum offerings to local business needs. A focus on values and soft skills training within the coursework will allow holistic development of students and impart life skills which will be useful to weather temporary disturbances. Interpersonal skills will give youth the confidence to present themselves better in interviews, tap into their social circles and negotiate offers.
